| Protest Against Obama's visit to Indonesia |
![]() Demonstrations against the arrival of President of the United States, Barack Obama in Indonesia was occurred in several places on Jakarta at November 9th. In front of U.S. Embassy, hundreds of masses from Voice Of Palestine Indonesia (VOP) and several other elements of society held the mass orations to against U.S. hegemony on the world.
Despite Obama promised change and improving relations with the Islamic world, but in reality up to now the leadership Obama is not much different from previous U.S. leaders. In fact, many moslems on the world have been disappointed by his inability to push Israel and the Palestinians toward peace and have watched uneasily as he escalated the U.S. military presence in Afghanistan. Next day, November 10th, students of University of Indonesia also held a demonstration against the arrival of Obama on their campus.
"We oppose Obama because the United States-Indonesia relations proved no benefit to Indonesian people," said spokesperson from Student Action Forum Group of University of Indonesia (FAM UI). While The National Missionary Group of University of Indonesia with hundreds of participants held a demo by using the vehicle pickup and speakers, voicing protests from U.S. government policy in the Middle East region which was considered detrimental to the Islamic community. "Where's Obama's promise to improve relations with the Islamic world?" said spokesman of the group, which cheers greeted the participants actions. These demonstrations are almost no coverage by media because the security forces had been keeping tight campus locations. |
